Jom Airfry Dan Menang Cooking Competition ~ Grand Finale Cook-off

Nowadays, Heart disease become the leading cause of death for both men and women worldwide.
Heart disease refers to a variety of conditions that affect the heart from infections to genetic defects and blood vessel diseases. Most heart disease can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices.
Being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease can take an emotional toll as well, affecting your mood, outlook, and quality of life. But that doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself. In addition to exercise, being careful about what you eat can help you lower cholesterol, control blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and maintain a healthy weight.
Improving your diet is an important step toward preventing heart disease, but you may feel unsure where to begin. No single food can make you magically healthy, so your goal can be to incorporate a variety of healthy foods prepared in healthy ways into your diet, and make these habits your new lifestyle.
For 2016, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and Philips Malaysia is continuing their collaboration, through the Jom Airfry Dan Menang Cooking Competition to encourage healthier eating and cooking habits, launched earlier this year. The competition is coming to a close, and the grand finale will see a cook-off between the five finalist teams.
The Jom Airfry dan Menang competition was organized in support of the World Heart Federation’s annual World Heart Day celebration, which aims to increase awareness on cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In line with the World Heart Federation’s ‘Power Your Life’ campaign, Philips aims to encourage people to take personal responsibility for leading heart-healthy lives, starting by eating healthy. For the competition, participants in teams of two were required to submit low-fat recipes of heart-friendly meals made using an airfryer to be eligible. The finalist teams were then selected based on the healthfulness and presentation of their recipes, the creative usage of the airfryer as well as the amateur chefs’ own personal story using the airfryer.

I’m honored to be invited to the grand finale of the Jom Airfry Dan Menang Cooking Competition that was organized by Institute Jantung Negara (IJN) and Philips Malaysia as part of their continued partnership for the FATCHECK For A Healthy Heart programme.

The finale competition organized in partnership with AEON BIG and took to the big stage at Main Atrium, Ground Floor, Tropicana City Mall.

There are five selected finalist team will need to battled it out to win prizes totalling over RM35,000.
To add to the challenge faced by the finalists, the grand finale cook-off featured a mystery box which held a secret ingredient that had to be included in the final dish. In one hour, participants had to whip up a two-course meal for two consisting of a low-fat nutritious main course and a dessert using the Philips Airfryer.

The prizes was so attractive and perhaps all the five finalist team also has well prepared their dishes to join this competition in order to win the great prizes.
Let see what the five team finalist has prepared in the following pictures…

All the team was busy preparing their finale dishes in order to win the competition.
There all look so in team work, try to cook and decorate their own dish with confidence and happy mood, fully enjoy in the competition.

In order to reduce your oil intake, it is also important to choose your food cooking and preparation method wisely. That may include methods not using oil such as dry fry and broiled dishes versus the oil based alternative of deep frying or stir fry dishes that are going to make you pay later.
On a positive note, it is probably a good idea to become more acquainted with your grill or air fryer that if use well can mean saving big bucks on oil consumption while cooking to eat healthier giving you an extra push towards losing weight.

It will also be important to make coating into thinness, since the quantity which absorbs oil will also increase if the quantity of coating increases in carrying out deep-fried dishes. They will be good to utilize well, since it not only can cook a grill and airfryer, without using oil, but they can drop the excessive oil contained in foods.
If frying, use a good Airfryer to dry fry. Leaving out the oil could cut 45 calories per teaspoon in your meal. If your food is drying out, don’t add more oil, add a little water.

“The Philips Airfryer Turbostar is the latest addition to our range of kitchen appliances. With it comes the option of enjoying heart-healthy,low-fat cooking that is easy and fuss-free without compromising on taste. The dishes prepared today by our finalists with their passion for airfrying are great examples of what the Airfryer can do with less to no oil at all,” said Mr Muhammad Ali Jaleel, Chief Executive Officer for Philips Group of Companies in Malaysia

Mr Muhammad Ali Jaleel (Chief Executive Officer for Philips Group of Companies in Malaysia) talk about healthy cooking methods and explaining some of the benefits by using Philips Airfryer Turbostar to the public.
With its new Airfryer TurboStar technology, easier to prepare the food you love in a healthier way, cut down oil with low-fat dairy and empowering you to make great, homemade meals every day.

“Reducing fat intake has emerged as one of the public’s biggest challenges in Malaysia. In fact, the Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey in 2014 found that most of us are eating way too much fat, with median intake standing at 46.43 grams per day. These observations were very significant because excessive fat intake increases your risk of a heart attack. Moreover, the National Health & Morbidity Survey 2015 showed that 30% of Malaysians are overweight with 17.7% of them being obese. 47.7% also have high cholesterol. This is extremely alarming for Malaysia. In fact, over 90% of heart disease patients have at least one of those cardiovascular risk factors – a point that was made by the Malaysian National Cardiovascular Disease Databases - Acute Coronary Syndrome (NCVD-ACS) initiative,” said Dato’ Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, Chief Executive Officer of IJN.

He added on, “I am glad that the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of a balanced nutritious diet and were able to apply their knowledge from the masterclass to the grand finale cook-off. Educating Malaysians on their recommended nutritional requirements is a crucial part of the programme and helps Malaysians lead a healthier lifestyle.”

Philips’ focus on heart health encompasses prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Our new partnership with the World Heart Federation is an important element of our commitment to drive prevention of CVD by highlighting the risk factors associated with CVD and to help people make better choices and develop healthier habits for life,” said Mr Muhammad Ali Jaleel, Chief Executive Officer for Philips Group of Companies in Malaysia. “This is also our second year working with IJN for the FATCHECK for a Healthy Heart community Education Programme as it is our shared mission to create deeper understanding of heart-healthy eating among the public.”

Puan Mary Easaw (IJN. Chief Dietitian) sharing some important for a heart-healthy diet, encourage people to cook with healthy way, including more heart-healthy foods in our meal plan.
Not only does it make life more enjoyable, but it actually helps to improve your health, protect your heart and also prevent disease.
